Step by Step Illustration Course

$100/per 1 hour session

Jared Salmond is an author and illustrator who has illustrated more than 20 children's books for mostly self-published authors. He has taught art since the age of 16, has a bachelor's degree in illustration from Utah Valley University and loves to help people make their books better! One of his children's books won the award for best illustrations in the "Best of State-Utah" awards.

In this illustration course Jared will instruct each client on the fundamentals of:

  • Character Design (1 hour)

  • Thumb-nailing (45 min to 1 hour) 

  • Layout/composition (30 min)

  • Text Placement (15-20 min)

  • Emotion in Characters (30-45 min)

  • Perspective (30-45 min)

  • Light and Shadow (30-45 min)

  • Use of Color (30 min)

  • Creating Backgrounds (30 min)

  • Textures (15-30 min)

  • Finalizing Your Art (15-30 min)

  • Printing Prep for Amazon and Other Printers (30-45 min)

Illustration Consultation

$75/ 1 hour consultation

Lara Saldaña is an illustrator, art agent, and homeschool resource creator. She has illustrated for several homeschool companies including Gather 'Round Homeschool,  Not Consumed Ministries,  Outsiders Adventure Co, and For the Love of Homeschooling. She has also illustrated 4 children's books. She has a passion for helping people learn and achieve a goal.

In this consultation Lara will help define what you are hoping to accomplish with illustrating and break down the steps to get you there. Not everyone will need the same sessions to achieve their goals. Some of the services offered are:

  • Manuscript review with visual and content suggestions

  • Tutoring on learning to use Procreate to illustrate including the tools, illustration fundamentals such as layout and text placement

  • Style defining to assist you in finding a style you love and identifying key points to help you draw in it. This will also include finding the brushes and technique to create amazing art in your chosen style

  • One on one drawing lessons

  • Feedback on the works you create
